Setting Up Receipt Printer & Cash Drawer with SolutioPOS
A reliable receipt printer and cash drawer speed up checkout and give your business a professional look. SolutioPOS supports any thermal or inkjet printer that Windows recognizes, plus cash drawers that connect via printer (RJ11) or USB. This guide covers installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Connecting the hardware
- Printer: Plug your USB/Ethernet/Bluetooth printer into the Windows PC. Install drivers from the manufacturer if needed. Most thermal printers work as generic ESC/POS.
- Cash drawer: If your printer has a RJ11 (phone jack) port for a cash drawer, connect it there. SolutioPOS will send a signal to open the drawer automatically after each sale. Alternatively, some cash drawers connect via USB or have a separate key.
Configuring printer in SolutioPOS
Open SolutioPOS → Admin Panel → Settings → Printer Selection. The dropdown will list all printers installed on Windows. Select your receipt printer. Test by clicking "Print Test Page".
- Paper size: Choose 58mm (most thermal receipt printers), 80mm, A4, or others.
- Margins: Adjust top/bottom margins (in cm) to fit your paper.
- Receipt footer: Add a custom message (e.g., "Thank you!").
- Store logo: Upload a logo in Business Settings – it appears on receipts.
Testing receipt printing
After configuring, go to the POS screen, ring up a dummy sale (e.g., $1 item), and complete the transaction. Check "Print Receipt" before finalizing. The receipt should print with your logo, items, totals, and footer.
Cash drawer auto‑open
When the printer is selected and the cash drawer is connected via the printer's RJ11 port, SolutioPOS will automatically send the standard ESC/POS command to open the drawer after each completed sale. No extra configuration needed.
Troubleshooting
Printer not appearing in the list?
Make sure the printer is installed in Windows (check Control Panel → Devices and Printers). Install the manufacturer's driver if missing. Restart SolutioPOS after installing the printer.
Receipt prints but is cut off or too small?
Adjust paper size and margins. For 58mm paper, set paper size to 58mm and margins to 0.5cm top/bottom. Use the print preview before printing.
Cash drawer does not open
Verify the drawer is connected to the printer's cash drawer port. Some printers require a specific driver setting. Test with the manufacturer's utility. If still not working, you can manually open the drawer with a key or use a USB drawer that emulates a keyboard (rare).
