What you need

  • A USB barcode scanner (wired or wireless with USB receiver)
  • SolutioPOS installed and activated (see our installation guide)
  • Products already entered in SolutioPOS with their barcodes

Step 1: Plug in the scanner

Connect the scanner to a free USB port on your Windows computer. Most scanners will beep and light up. Windows automatically installs the driver – no extra software needed.

Step 2: Test the scanner (before opening SolutioPOS)

Open Notepad, click inside, and scan any barcode. If the barcode number appears, your scanner works correctly. If nothing appears, try a different USB port or restart your computer.

Step 3: Launch SolutioPOS

Start SolutioPOS and go to the POS screen. Click on the search field (or the barcode input area). Scan a product – SolutioPOS should instantly find the product, add it to the cart, and play a beep sound.

Step 4: Configure scanner settings (optional)

Some scanners allow you to configure suffix (e.g., Enter key after scan). SolutioPOS works with or without Enter. If your scanner has configuration barcodes, set it to "USB keyboard mode" (default).

Troubleshooting common issues

Scanner beeps but nothing appears in SolutioPOS

Make sure the cursor is focused on the search/scan field. Click inside it. If still not working, check that your product barcode is correctly entered in the product database.

Scanner adds an extra character (like a line break)

This is normal if your scanner sends an "Enter" after each scan. SolutioPOS handles it fine. If it causes issues, you can configure the scanner to send only the barcode (without suffix) using its manual.

Scanner not recognized at all

Try a different USB port. Restart your computer. If using a wireless scanner, replace batteries or re-pair the receiver.

Advanced: Using a fixed mount scanner

For grocery or retail, you may want a hands‑free scanner stand. The same steps apply – just ensure the scanner is positioned to read barcodes automatically. SolutioPOS will keep the search field active for continuous scanning.

With your barcode scanner ready, you can now process sales much faster. SolutioPOS also supports receipt printers and cash drawers – check our other guides.
